So each year my daughter and wife will go skiing with the in-laws, leaving me and the triplet boys to our devices (or devastation). In 2014, I began to take them on a boys weekend in order to instill the Barry Family Code.

I have discovered that our community has done a terrible job of values-based parenting. Most parents are reactive, and parenting from the hip. We have moved from a culture of “can I?” (external restraints) to “should I?” (internal values). It is no longer “can I afford a video game system, but should I?” For our boys it will no longer be “can I get access to a playboy magazine, but should I access the plethora of pornography on the internet.”
Therefore, I have started to build in values based parenting to our boys.
To be a Barry means that you have Integrity, Perseverance and Confident Humility.
As a result, we have started our annual trips to build on these themes, and this past month we tackled Perseverance.
Curious what our weekend looked like?
